about

I recorded this song at home late one night before I installed my gobos (sound baffles) on the windows. As a result, you can hear the crickets bleed through in the recording. This was a very happy accident.
I very much recommend listening to this song with headphones on in a dark room.
For your information, my father is very much alive. The last verse was actually inspired by the untimely death of the father of two friends of mine. Both of them brothers, they are also fathers themselves. I was thinking of my own dad, and how fate keeps no promises. How a figure so larger than life could be swept away in an instant...it seems that the only proper way to honor a father's legacy and preserve his existence is to assume his role and become a father myself someday.

lyrics

I dip my toes into the sun
And rest my heels against the moon
Flung from the earth, I dreamed these words for you

Follow your roots
Follow your heart
It's all in your mind

Blow some wind into my eyes
Oh that my tears may wet the skies
And rain and rain and rain
So the seas may see these cries

Follow your roots
Follow your heart
It's all in your mind

My dear dead father
I was your son
But now I'm you and you are no one
And still I lift you as if you weigh a ton

Follow your roots
Follow your heart
It's all in your mind
